Creating a “cool” office culture

Having a team that’s motivated and inspired is one of the many keys to success. So, you can imagine that creating a good culture through an atmosphere where these team members feel positive and engaged is essential.

Having a “cool” or “fun” office environment might seem counterproductive at first, but if the outcome is high production, then using the culture to attract and retain good staff comes at a good price.

But how do you do that?

  1. Determine values and goals - As a business or office space, it is highly likely that you already have goals in place. It is important that your staff is clued in on these goals so that you increase your chances of achieving them, or at least aspiring to them. Having a brainstorming session to hear what each individual thinks it takes to succeed and getting their input, assists you in keeping them accountable to seeing out the vision of business with you. Keeping your team in the loop and really listening to their feedback gives them a sense of inclusion and will hopefully assist them in embracing the significance of the values that are based on and reflect their own suggestions.

  2. Create fun work spaces - If you think about it, people spend the majority of their time at work. What if you could foster an environment that promotes creativity and boosts a positive mentality all while getting work done? Simply encouraging your team members to express themselves from the comfort of their workspace can be enticing.

  3. Plan outings & events - Giving your team the chance to create relationships outside of the workplace helps everyone to get to know each other on a more personal level-- internal networking, if you will. It’s beneficial for you, the workplace, and the business. This could be hosting a happy hour at the end of the week, celebrating birthdays in the office, participating in a local group activity, or even  just treating your team to morning donuts, or pizza. These are all morale boosters and help build bonds among colleagues.

Whatever way you choose to create that “cool” office culture, remember to be sincere to get the most out of your efforts. You want your team to believe in you and the company, but also themselves. These are all just some suggestions of ways to enforce your appreciation, while listening and acknowledging the contributions of your team.
